on Evacuation Day, 1783, and here it was that the most inter-
esting event in the history of the old building occurred
when Washington bade forewell to his officers in the Long
Room on December 4th, 1783.
The Sons of the Revolution in 1904 acquired the property
and restored the building as originally occupied by Sam
Fraunces.
